Thorondir are a pagan metal band from Waldsassen, Bavaria. They were formed on June 15 2007 by Kevin Wienerl (vocals), Dominik Hautmann (rhythm guitar), Alexander Göhl (drums), Michael Ney (lead guitar), Fabian Wienerl (Keys / synthesizer) and Christopher Zeus (bass). However, shortly after the realease of their first album, Düsterwald (2008), Christopher Zeus left and was replaced by Florian Striegl.

Pestilential Shadows are an Australian black metal act which began in 2003 in Corrimal, New South Wales with Balam and Meririm (a.k.a Azgorh). Their lyrical issues involve genocide, anti-Christianity and death. The band is currently on Séance Records and describe themselves as “Anti-Human Plague Black Metal”.

Based out of San Francisco, CA, deafheaven started as a isolated project between frontman George LeSage and guitarist Kerry M. After sending the demo to various blogs and receiving overwhelmingly positive reception, they accepted offers to play live shows and added members of Whirl and Temple of Saturn to form the quintet that today tours as deafheaven. On July 29th, 2010, deafheaven played their first show, marking the unofficial genesis of their rise to bay area prominence. Within months of forming, they began receiving interest from numerous record labels and officially signed on with Deathwish Records in December of 2010.

The music is an artistic entity channeling the twin stream of all-devouring Darkness and the profound Enlightenment that lies hidden therein. The core of this beast is Black Metal, majestic atmosphere forms the flesh around its bones and Occult Satanism runs through its veins. Though its faces have been many and the shape has shifted often, its current manifestation harbours five damned souls in its flaming heart.

Vreid is a black metal band from Sogndal, Norway. After the tragic death of Valfar in January 2004, the rest of the Windir members decided to end Windir, and put their energy into other projects.
Hváll formed a new band, called Vreid. Vreid is a Norwegian word for wrath. Vreid consists of the 3 Windir members Hváll (bass), Steingrim (drums), Sture (vocals/guitar) and a new guitarist named Ese. Ese has been a close friend of the Vreid members for years, and he was co-engineer on Windir's Likferd album.

Woods of Desolation was formed by D. (aka Dolor) in New South Wales, Australia in 2005 as a means of much deeper personal expression/unburdening through music. Utilising the help of P. Knight on vocals (and occasionally bass) located in the UK 2005- early 2007 saw the recording of 2 demos and 2 split releases released in very limited numbers via different underground labels. These early releases explored more the idea of raw improvisation and experimenting with various different self-recording techniques to achieve the final result.
It was in autumn 2001 when Black Death Metal fanatic Mors Dalos Ra (guitars, vocals and keys) put some guitar lines unto tape which later became the infamous Necromantic Doom demo. Always possessed by things as the occult and dark wisdom involved in music, his style seems to be primitive old school on the one hand, but is totally disturbing and devastating on the other.
Thurisaz began as a quartet in May 1997, with Peter on guitar and grunts, Mattias on guitar and screams, Pepijn on drums and Lars on bass. In 1999 Kobe joined on synths, an event that defined the sound of Thurisaz in the stages to come. After several demos, the band released it’s first full-album "Scent of a Dream" in 2004. The album sums up the best Thurisaz has to offer: very variated, high standard avantgarde doom-metal with lots of emotion and depth. The reviews were really amazing and no one could really understand why this band hadn’t been signed yet.

With some genuinely interesting ideas and the presence of an almost viking metal approach to composing “epic” compositions, “Hymner till undergången” sets itself apart from the pack, making it a worthy listen.

Recommended Nehëmah is a French black metal band who have released three full length albums: 'Light of a Dead Star', 'Shadows from the Past' and 'Requiem Tenebrae', two demos: 'Light of a Dead Star' and 'Nehëmah', one split 7" EP with Vultyr, and one live album: 'In November Live...'. The demo and full length of the same name share some of the same songs but have different tracks between the two that make them seperate each. Started in 1992, the band is still active.
